Gold & Metallic Dusts / Gold Edible Paint
Shake the Bottle Well - Before using the paint, ensure the solid and liquid ingredients are mixed for a smooth consistency. Shake the bottle well each time before use, including between sessions. If the paint appears transparent, it means the ingredients have not yet mixed properly.
Familiarize Yourself with the Paints - Take the time to play with the paints and become familiar with their properties. Each color has different pigmentation, so get a feel for each. The metallic paints work well on a variety of edible surfaces including fondant, chilled buttercream cakes, sugar cookies, marshmallows, confectionery, ganache, modeling chocolate, macarons, and fruits. Avoid using these paints on Italian or Swiss meringue buttercream, as these surfaces inhibit the paint's ability to air-dry.
Recommended Brushes - For best results, use wide, flat brushes with soft bristles to apply the metallic paints.
Clean-Up - Have hot soapy water and paper towels ready for clean-up. After finishing with one color, wash your brush gently and dry it with a paper towel immediately. Alternatively, you can rinse the brush with dishwashing liquid in your hand, then rinse with hot water.
Apply Only a Light Stroke - Less is more when applying the paint. It's easier to build up the color than to remove it. If a second coat is needed, wait for the first coat to dry. Thick coats will take longer to dry.
Use Directly from the Bottle - This paint is designed for direct use from the bottle. However, you can thin it with a drop of 95 percent high-grade alcohol if necessary.
Allow Proper Drying Time - These paints require a full 24 hours to air-dry. Drying times can be affected by temperature and humidity, so please allow ample time. Using a fan can speed the drying process. Improper drying may result in a bitter taste.
Specific Drying Considerations - When using metallic paints on buttercream, allow sufficient time for drying before placing the cake back in the refrigerator.
